Four Sundays of fantasy football are in the books. Time for the Week 5 waiver wire.

Some of the names listed below might end up winning leagues. At the very least, several of them could be difference-makers in the immediate future. Do not take the waiver wire for granted -- this is where the rubber meets the road in our imaginary game.

I’ll be here every week from now until fantasy championships. Hope to have you along for the full ride. Let’s win some hardware.

NOTES:

  • Players must be rostered in less than 60% of ESPN leagues to be eligible for the column.

TOP 15 OVERALL WAIVER-WIRE TARGETS

And here are my top waiver-wire targets by position:

QUARTERBACKS

ROSTERED: 17%

News flash: Kirk Cousins is really, really good. Three straight games with 20-plus fantasy points. Multiple touchdown passes every single week and 256.5 passing yards per game on the year. Klint Kubiak’s offense is working, and Cousins is thriving at the helm. He’s a top-10 fantasy QB until further notice.

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins' best throws from his 365-yard, two-touchdown game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs during Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season.

ROSTERED: 37%

With Nico Collins back in Week 4 -- and in an admittedly soft matchup with Dallas -- Stroud finally showed up for fantasy, with 347 passing yards, a pair of touchdowns and 23.08 points. If this offense can stay healthy, he can be a borderline QB1 over the rest of the season and should be added in most leagues.

ROSTERED: 10%

Brissett is a wild card, and he's scored fewer than 17 fantasy points in three of four starts ... but he faces the Lions in Week 5. Detroit's defense has been eviscerated by quarterbacks this year, with Tyler Shough, Josh Allen, Geno Smith and Bryce Young all topping 21 fantasy points in the matchup. Brissett should do the same.

ROSTERED: 7%

Over the last two weeks, Rodgers has totaled 591 passing yards, six passing touchdowns and 44.64 fantasy points. I’m not putting him in the “shockingly top 10” tier with Kirk Cousins, but he’s worth adding or streaming, if you’re in need at the position.

ROSTERED: 3%

Winston is what he is: a volatile QB who will sometimes throw three touchdowns (like he did in Week 4) and sometimes throw multiple picks (like he also did in Week 4). For fantasy, I’m willing to play him in great matchups -- like Washington, despite Daniel Jones’ absolute stinker against the Commanders on Sunday in London. Winston’s a viable Week 5 streamer.

RUNNING BACKS

ROSTERED: 58%

After being designated to return to practice last week -- and after Jadarian Price (chest) was placed on injured reserve -- Charbonnet is suddenly the hottest commodity in fantasy. Upon return to the game-day lineup, he could be the clear RB1 for a productive, efficient offense. He scored 12 touchdowns while splitting work with Kenneth Walker III last year and might be a league-winner in 2026.

ROSTERED: 2%

Ekeler played a surprising 26.2% of the snaps at running back in his return to Washington. But more surprisingly -- and more importantly -- he led the RB room with 29 rushing yards on four carries, while Jacory Croskey-Merritt struggled to just 15 yards on nine totes. Ekeler looked great, has a versatile skill set and could take over as the top dog in an unsettled backfield.

ROSTERED: 28%

As if to remind us he should be one of fantasy’s most rostered handcuffs, Allgeier put together 12.9 fantasy points with Jeremiyah Love active on Sunday. In any reasonably sized league, Allgeier should be tucked away on someone’s bench.

ROSTERED: 6%

While MarShawn Lloyd continued to lead the Packers backfield in snaps on Sunday (54.5%), he had just 13 rushing yards on seven carries. Johnson was the standout RB, as he put together 42 yards on eight carries (both team highs). The backfield is likely to remain messy in Green Bay, but Johnson is building a case to be RB1.

ROSTERED: 1%

Saquon Barkley is undergoing tests on a hamstring injury, and Tank Bigsby is headed to IR with a core muscle issue. As of mid-Monday, Shipley is the only healthy RB in Philly and could have FLEX value if Barkley also misses time.

WIDE RECEIVERS

ROSTERED: 4%

Pending the status of DJ Moore -- who aggravated his shoulder injury on Sunday -- Coleman is a top priority on waivers. Coleman stepped up and caught six of seven targets for 116 yards, highlighted by back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter: a 24-yard snag on third down and a 34-yard touchdown. Should Moore miss time, Coleman would have fantasy WR2 appeal.

ROSTERED: 51%

While Concepcion still hasn’t had a true breakout day for fantasy, the first-round rookie led the Browns in routes (37) and targets (8) on Thursday night and has now received 17 targets over the last two weeks. Stash him away ahead of the coming explosion.

ROSTERED: 58%

While A.J. Brown (high ankle sprain) could return in the coming weeks, Mack Hollins exited Sunday’s game with a calf injury. Doubs finally synced up with Drake Maye as New England's offense came alive in a huge win at Buffalo. The free-agent addition led the Patriots with six catches and nine targets, scoring two critical touchdowns in the process. Should he fill the role he was signed to embody moving forward, Doubs could be a frequently useful top-30 WR in fantasy.

ROSTERED: 28%

Washington's fantasy points continue to tick up with each passing week, and he's topped 40 receiving yards in all four games. He’s been very high floor/low ceiling so far but has a good shot at 10-15 fantasy points against the Bengals in Week 5 and is a relatively safe FLEX play.

ROSTERED: 0%

Who?! Former CFL star Dohnte Meyers should be the fourth- or fifth-string wideout in Cincinnati, but with Andrei Iosivas on IR and both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins exiting Sunday’s game with injuries, Meyers is worth a look on waivers. He snagged seven of nine targets for 82 yards in Week 4 and could be a top target for Joe Burrow against Miami in Week 5.

ROSTERED: 55%

With DeVonta Smith (hamstring) out on Sunday, no Eagle totaled more than three catches or 33 receiving yards. Still, Wicks remains an intriguing add purely off usage, and Cooper is also gaining intrigue in Philly. A second-year pro who went undrafted in 2025, Cooper caught three of his team-high seven targets against the Rams, including two for touchdowns (one of which was incredibly acrobatic).

ROSTERED: 4%

It’s been hit or miss for Wilson through one month, but the Steelers wideout has recorded six targets, three catches, 60-plus yards and a touchdown in consecutive games. Should he continue to see decent volume, Wilson could have occasional FLEX upside.

TIGHT ENDS

ROSTERED: 10%

It’s not a pretty week for tight end pickups, but Gesicki has scored a touchdown in three of four games to start the season and could see more work with the wide receiver room banged up in Cincy. At the very least, he’s streamable in Week 5 against the Dolphins, who just surrendered 24.9 fantasy points to T.J. Hockenson.

ROSTERED: 55%

After catching nine of 13 targets through three weeks ... Hockenson hauled in 13 of 13 targets in Week 4 for 119 yards. This was most likely an aberration, but just in case Kyler Murray and the Minnesota offense unlocked something with the Hock connection on Sunday, stash the former Pro Bowl tight end.

DEFENSES

ROSTERED: 38%

Over the past three weeks, the Bears have allowed 28 points total. They also have eight sacks and three takeaways over that span. With upcoming matchups against Green Bay and Atlanta, Chicago is probably the best add if you’re looking for more than a one-week stream.

ROSTERED: 17%

While the Bengals have just one takeaway over the last three weeks, they do have four sacks in three of four games in 2026 and hold the third-highest sack rate in the league (8.6%, tied with Chicago). Against a Miami offense that’s allowing the third-highest sack rate (9.6%) and has yet to score more than 13 points in a single contest, Cincy is a top-tier play for Week 5.

ROSTERED: 28%

Apart from a weak performance at Denver in Week 2, Jacksonville's defense has been excellent for fantasy, thanks in large part to its NFL-high six interceptions. And neither of the Jags' next two opponents -- the Eagles and Texans -- are particularly threatening matchups.

ROSTERED: 8%

One of the teams tied with Jacksonville at six interceptions? The New York Giants. In Week 5, Big Blue faces a Commanders team that might be starting its third-string QB. Another solid stream.

ROSTERED: 41%

The Browns have at least three sacks and one interception in each of their last three games. The Jets are averaging fewer than 20 points per game and surrendering the fifth-highest sack rate in the league. This Week 5 matchup should be ugly and low-scoring -- the perfect environment for fantasy defense.
