In 2003, Matsui joined the New York Yankees as a free agent. During his 10 seasons in MLB, Matsui—widely known as "Godzilla"—batted .282 with 175 home runs and 760 RBIs. In 2009, he became the first Japanese player to be named World Series Most Valuable Player.
